Dr. Haycock will soon split her time between Carthage and the hospital’s Philadelphia Physical Therapy clinic, 32787 U.S. Route 11, seeing patients in Philadelphia two days a week and three days a week in Carthage. Her practice will focus on a wide range of physical therapy needs for patients of all ages. She especially enjoys working with the geriatric population.

Dr. Haycock is a Clayton native and a 2012 graduate of Thousand Islands High School. She earned a Doctor of Physical Therapy in May 2018 from Daemon College, Buffalo, and completed clinical internships with South Jeff Physical Therapy, Adams; Samaritan Summit Village, Watertown; Jefferson-Lewis BOCES, Watertown; and Carthage Area Hospital.

She said she was drawn to the field after having endured several sports injuries while a high school soccer player and cheerleader that resulted in “a lot of physical therapy.” Through that experience, she learned how physical therapists spend more “time one-on-one caring for patients” than many other clinical practitioners.

“Physical therapy patients generally have longer visit times so you get to work with them through their recovery and help them get back to the prior level of function they had,” she said. “I enjoy seeing a patient make that kind of progress and having a positive impact on them.”

The opportunity to join the team at Carthage Therapy Services followed a successful completion of her final nine-week clinical internship. Tracy Leonard, deputy director of the Fort Drum Regional Health Planning Organization, Watertown, connected Dr. Haycock with Carthage Therapy Services while she was seeking placement for an internship. Leonard is a longtime friend and mentor to Dr. Haycock, who attended MASH Camp during high school.

“I always knew I wanted to go pursue a career in the medical field,” Dr. Haycock said. “I’ve been interested in the sciences from a young age.”

She said she looks forward to developing her practice while “helping people get back to their best quality of life” and working with patients in the Carthage and Philadelphia areas.

Dr. Haycock is recently engaged to wed. Her fiancé, Robert Owens, works for the Community Action Planning Council, Watertown. She is the daughter of Dan and Alynda Haycock, Clayton. Outside of practice, she enjoys spending time with family, the outdoors and hiking with her fiancé. She is scheduled to complete her physical therapy boards in July.
