Carthage Area Hospital Announces 2022 Employee of the Year - Carthage Area Hospital

Therapy Services Employee Awarded at Annual Holiday Party

After a two-year hiatus, Carthage Area Hospital hosted its annual Holiday Party on Friday, December 9th, 2022 at the Hilton Garden Inn Watertown/Thousand Islands.  Following a sit-down dinner, remarks were made thanking employees for all their hard work and dedication, along with recognition service awards, including Employee of the Year. Carthage Therapy Services’ Secretary, Kristine “Kris” Augustine received the prestigious honor.

Born and raised in Carthage, NY, Augustine originally began her career at Carthage Area Hospital in 1993 where she spent 18 years working in Registration, Billing, and the former VA Clinic. Prior to coming back in March 2018 as the Carthage Therapy Services Department Secretary, she worked at Advanced Physical Therapy of Watertown (APTOW), Watertown, NY. Outside of work, Augustine enjoys spending time with her family, especially her husband, Angelo and their two daughters, Kassandra and Katie. When asked about her favorite part of her job, she replied, “I love the customer service and being there for people,” said Augustine.

Employees have the ability to nominate a peer for Employee of the Quarter and Employee of the Year throughout the year. Augustine received several nominations with peers describing her as “patient” and “understanding and very kind in her interactions with staff and patients,” along with, “she makes you feel like an important member of the department.”

“Kris is highly-consistent. She is probably one of the most consistent staff members when it comes to conveying messages to our patient population.  She is great at greeting patients and takes ownership in being cheerful and accommodating.  She also is excellent at lending a sympathetic and supportive ear to her coworkers,” said Cheryl Tousant, PT, DPT, Therapy Services Department Manager.
