Thank Your Family Physician on March 30th, National Doctor's Day - Carthage Area Hospital

National Doctor’s Day is held every year on March 30th to celebrate the medical professionals who work tirelessly to ensure our health and well-being.

History of Doctor’s Day

The first Doctor’s Day was organized in the early 1930s by Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles Almond, a small town family physician in Georgia. During the Great Depression, squalid living conditions and unprecedented migration led to spikes in tuberculosis. The medical professionals of that era often risked their lives and livelihoods to combat tuberculosis and the myriad of other infectious diseases that could claim their own lives and the lives of their patients. Mrs. Brown gathered friends and family from the town of Winder to lay wreaths of flowers on the graves of fallen doctors. In 1958, a congressional resolution was adopted commemorating the day, and in 1990, President George H. W. Bush signed a law officially designating March 30th as a day to honor doctors and all that they have achieved, sacrificed, and protected.

Thank your Physician

Many choose to thank their family physicians with the traditional gift of flowers, but even a card or a phone call will let the doctor in your life know that you appreciate their work. A kind word of recognition for the sleepless nights, worry, and selfless devotion can go a long way. Keep the spirit of National Doctor’s Day going strong, and thank your family physician this March 30th.
