My Nursing Story - Carthage Area Hospital

Written and submitted by: Michaela Dozier, LPN

My name is Michaela Dozier and I currently work for Meadowbrook Terrace. I have been employed here for 3 years now. I started in April 2016 as a home health aide. In September 2016, I started LPN school. I am happily married with 4 children at this time so I am spread thin already so I wasn’t sure how going back to school, working full time and being a mom/ wife was going to work out. My family was my motivation the whole time. I studied at football and baseball practices, wrestling matches, even on the way to dinner with my family. I never thought I could make it. I was working 1030p-630a and then getting off and rushing home to shower and meet friends at Price Chopper to carpool and head to school from 815a until 3 or 330p just to do it all over again every day. As time went on, I found out I was pregnant with my 5th child. My husband and I were over the moon, but this added more stress as you might imagine. I knew I had to finish. I had 4 children and a 5th on the way that I could not let down. My husband was my biggest fan. When tests didn’t go so well and I felt like giving up he reminded me of how strong I was. As the months went on, I did cut back to part time so I could focus on my studies. Then June 2017 came, my big day, my Graduation day! I did it! Then, I had my beautiful baby girl in July 2017. I took my NCLEX in August 2017 and passed the first try! Still to this day my husband is my biggest fan, standing behind me every step of the way. He has also been a Meadowbrook employee for 6 years now. Becoming a nurse is my biggest accomplishment besides my children. I am so happy to be a part of the Meadowbrook Terrace staff and I look forward to continuing on to becoming an RN in the future.
