2020 Employee of the Year Celebrates 40 Years with Carthage Area Hospital - Carthage Area Hospital

Hospital Staff Celebrated Billing Clerk, Judy MacCue

During National Hospital Week in May, hospital staff gathered together to celebrate the 2021 Employee of the Year on Thursday, May 13th.  Instead of the familiar Employee of the Month concept, Carthage Area Hospital celebrates Employees of the Quarter. Out of 6 nominations, Billing Clerk, Judy MacCue was peer-selected anonymously to receive the prestigious honor.

Judy began her career at Carthage at age 19 as a switchboard operator and will reach her 40th anniversary with Carthage Area Hospital this year. When asked about her favorite thing about Carthage Area Hospital, she replied “the people”. Judy has been a Carthage resident her entire life. She enjoys her family, especially her great-niece.  She has been married for over twenty years and she and her husband enjoy music, television, and until recent years, camping.

“We were thrilled to celebrate this accomplishment with Judy and reflect upon the impression made by such dedication and longevity. She is a warm and welcoming face or voice to all. Her commitment and longevity are remarkable. Judy exemplifies our new motto ‘WE are Carthage’ and takes great pride in her efforts to achieve sustainability and secure a healthy future for both the hospital and the community which it serves. Judy is a wonderful reflection of our past, present and future,” said Carrie Bova, Director of Revenue Cycle at Carthage Area Hospital.

MacCue received a plaque, engraved clock, bouquet of flowers, and chocolate. She also enjoyed a department cookout after the ceremony.

Nomination, Selection Process

Employee of the Year selection is peer-based and limited to a pool of candidates who were selected as Employees of the Quarter during the year. Criteria include embodiment of the organization’s core values of accountability, compassion, customer service, professionalism, and teamwork.

All team members employed for more than one year are eligible for nomination by fellow employees, supervisors, auxiliary members, patients, patient family members, or visitors. Nominations are reviewed based on each nominee’s embodiment of Carthage Area Hospital’s five core values.

In 2017, the hospital’s Rewards and Recognition Committee implemented a new selection process through an anonymous vote open to the entire staff.
