Diabetes Awareness Event Goes Virtual November 30th - Carthage Area Hospital

Community Engagement Series Continues for National Diabetes Month

To celebrate National Diabetes Month, Carthage Area Hospital is hosting their Annual Diabetes Awareness event virtually Tuesday, November 30th, 2021 from 12pm-1pm via Google Meet. In the past, the hospital’s Community Engagement Series offered a free luncheon and an opportunity to learn about various healthcare topics related to prevention and detection from healthcare experts. This month’s focus is on the prevention and management of diabetes.

“According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Disease (NIDDK), an estimated 30.3 million people in the United States have diabetes and about 84.1 million Americans aged 18 and older have prediabetes. We’re fortunate to have 3 exceptional speakers for this event who can help guide our participants through management of the disease, as well as how to prevent it,” said Dave Gunderson, Community Engagement Series Coordinator.

Speakers include Carthage Area Hospital Podiatrist, Dr. Jason Forni, who will provide an overview of how diabetes can affect your foot and the importance of foot care; Carthage Area Hospital’s Director of Community Nutrition and Diabetes Education, Carly Draper, RD, CDN, CDE who will conduct an overview of the importance of nutrition on diabetes health; and Clinical Pharmacist Christopher Bradley, PharmD, RPh, MBA who will discuss the importance of diabetes medications.
