Spiritual Care Services

It has long been recognized that when a person’s body is challenged by illness or injury, the mind and spirit (soul) are impacted. Not only does the mind and body need rehabilitation, the spirit also needs support in the healing process. Studies confirm that patients do better when spiritual support is included in their treatment. The Spiritual Care Department at Carthage Area Hospital works with the healthcare team in partnership with area clergy and our communities to provide spiritual care for patients and residents, for their families, and for staff. Spiritual Care is offered to everyone regardless of belief or religious affiliation.

Services offered include:

• Linkage with personal clergy or spiritual leader
• Response to faith specific requests
• Spiritual care visits for emotional and spiritual support during a hospital stay when experiencing a loss, dealing with end-of-life issues, when there is a desire to have someone to pray with or for a patient or loved one.
• Availability of spiritual reading material, rosaries, prayer booklets, and other devotional resources
• Skilled Nursing Unit
• Interdenominational Sunday Services
• Weekly Bible Study
• Weekly Rosary
• Music Ministry twice a month
• Weekly Communion for Catholic residents
• Catholic Mass every third Friday of the month at 2:00pm in the Chapel
• Holy Communion for Catholic patients
• Contact with personal clergy for sacramental ministry (Anointing, Penance, ect.)

Chapel:

• Offers a quiet place for prayer, meditation or “time out”
• Located in the same hallway as the cafeteria
• Open 24 hours a day
