Typically at other military installations, there is always a hospital on post. Fort Drum is an exceptional case. It’s one of only a few military bases in the country without a hospital, which may result in being referred to the civilian community by the MTF (military treatment facility). Carthage Area Hospital is one out of five hospitals in the area that serves the Fort Drum community. Some may look at this in fear, wondering how they will manage such a huge adjustment, but both the community and you benefit from this circumstance. It provides options. Being able to choose a provider or PCM (primary care manager) and a hospital is unique and gives YOU the chance to decide. It’s a great opportunity for the local community to give back to our men and women in uniform and their families and provide them with exceptional health care. Taking care of families is of top priority as well because it lets our soldiers focus on their task-at-hand and eases their minds about their families’ well-being while they’re away.
