To commemorate national Men’s Health Month, Carthage Area Hospital will feature a provider discussion on Wednesday, June 28, focused on common men’s health issues as part of its monthly Community Engagement Series.
“Man Up for Your Health with Brews & Bros” is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Carthage Elks Lodge, 511 Fulton St. The event is free and open to the public and includes complimentary light food, beverages and craft beer tastings. All ages are welcome to attend, though complimentary beer tastings are limited to those 21 and older.
“Many health statistics about our population’s men are alarming. The good news is that education and awareness can help those we love from becoming statistics,” said Natalie Burnham, Carthage Area Hospital director of patient, community and employee engagement. “Early detection begins with regular checkups and screenings and can prevent many conditions.”
Carthage Area Hospital began its Community Engagement Series this year in an effort to bring residents and providers together in a stress-free environment and to offer an opportunity for people to engage with clinicians and comfortably ask questions. The men’s health event is the fourth of 10 events scheduled this year.
“People are more likely to walk away having learned something valuable when the event is relaxed and informal,” Burnham said.
The hospital is pleased to introduce a pair of highly qualified speakers from its team who will discuss a range of men’s health-related topics, including overall men’s health and prostate health.
Dr. Felix T. Oben, FACS, board-certified urologist, will present “Prostate health: What you should know at any age” and Christopher Mueller, RPA-C, a primary and emergency care physician assistant, will present “Overall men’s health: From prevention and wellness to common issues men face as they age.”
Attendees will be given the chance to submit written questions anonymously to both providers when they check in for the event.

Felix T. Oben, M.D., FACS — Board-Certified Urologist
Topic: Prostate health: What you should know at any age
Bio: Dr. Felix T. Oben is a Board-Certified urologist who joined Carthage Area Hospital in June 2015. He earned a Medical Doctorate at the University of Yaounde, Republic of Cameroon, in October 1990. In 1998, he earned permanent certification from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates. From 1998 to 1999, Dr. Oben was a surgical intern at Howard University Hospital, Washington, D.C., completing a general surgery residency in 2000. In 2002, he passed his United States Medical Licensing Exam. In 2004, Dr. Oben completed a four-year residency in urology at Howard University Hospital. Dr. Oben maintains active medical and surgical licenses in New York, is a member of the Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Urology.
Christopher Mueller, RPA-C — Primary & Emergency Care Physician Assistant
Topic: Overall Men’s Health: From Prevention and Wellness to Common Health Issues Men Face as They Age
Bio: Christopher M. Mueller is a nationally certified physician assistant at Carthage Family Health Center and the Carthage Area Hospital Emergency Department. Mr. Mueller earned an Associate of Applied Science from Austin Peay State University, Clarksville, Tenn., and a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Neb. He is a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants, the New York State Society of Physician Assistants, the Society of Emergency Medicine Physician Assistants and the Society of Army Physician Assistants. He recently retired from the United States Army after 22-plus years of active duty service, serving in multiple capacities. He lives in the North Country with his wife and four children.
